Preparing for marriage can be a difficult process. With depressing statistics of marital happiness constantly presented to us, it may seem like an elusive goal. Enduring emotional safety, respect, emotional connection, passion and fun are more than possible for a long healthy and happy marriage. You can become equipped to secure such a marriage through Premarital Couples Counseling.
Marriages commonly suffer difficulties that seem insurmountable. Even good marriages can become burdensome, and couples are often reminded that vows are “for better or worse.” Many times in relationships, one spouse or the other feels that compromises need to be made. Often the pattern of compromise builds resentment, and each person’s deeper needs are never really met. Resentment may build for many other reasons as well. We can end the cycle and restore the joy of marriage.
We utilize the research-based and proven effective Relationship Enhancement approach to family counseling. Counseling is generally short-term in nature and focuses not only on helping families resolve current family issues, but also empowers families by teaching family members skills for improving communication and developing the ability to cooperatively and effectively resolve family conflicts which develop in the future. We can help you end your family crisis or dysfunction and restore peace and joy.
Child Centered Play Therapy follows the principles of Client-Centered Therapy of creating a non-judgmental, emotionally supportive therapeutic atmosphere, but with clear boundaries that provide the child with psychological safety to permit the learning of emotional and behavioral self-regulation. Research has validated that this is a powerful method for decreasing a wide range of child problems, for overcoming traumatic experiences, for developing expressive freedom and creativity, and for building self-esteem and more mature, pro-social behaviors.
Psychological testing is the process of administering research-validated clinical tests that are designed to provide additional information about the psychological functioning and personality characteristics of an individual. Often we administer a single-purpose test, but a battery of several tests is available to shed light on the cause of symptoms and to guide the treatment.
Online therapy, or teletherapy, is available to help clients who live far away from our offices or have difficulty coming to one of our offices in person. It is our experience, validated by other reports and research, that teletherapy is just as effective as treatment in person. A different kind of therapeutic alliance is established over the internet than what develops in person, however the differences still allow for very effective treatment. Therapy over Skype is available for individual, premarital, or marital therapy.
In group therapy approximately 6-10 individuals meet face-to-face with a trained group therapist. During the group meeting time, members decide more-or-less what they want to talk about. During this time, members are encouraged to give feedback to others. Feedback includes expressing your own feelings about what someone says or does.
