Therapist Associate

Maureen O’Connell is a wife, mom of four, and a licensed Catholic therapist in Raleigh, NC. Maureen completed her MS in Clinical Psychology from the Institute for the Psychological Sciences.  Maureen’s faith and intimate love for God are at the heart of her work. From a young age, Maureen felt naturally drawn to listen and support others. After taking a Peer Counseling class in seventh grade, she knew she was meant to be a counselor. Although hidden, God was ever-present in her life, leading her each step, eventually to Arizona State University to study psychology.

After college graduation, Maureen felt called to integrate psychology with her rediscovered Catholic faith and returned home to Virginia, where she joined the second class of students at the Institute for the Psychological Sciences. Maureen now lives in Raleigh, NC and has been married to her husband, Patrick, since 2006. Along with her full-time work of caring for her family, she established the CatholicPsych Institute Raleigh.


Maureen is the director of the CatholicPsych Institute’s Raleigh, North Carolina office.


Maureen received the Master of Science (MS) degree in Psychology from the Institute for the Psychological Sciences. Prior to her studies in graduate Psychology, she received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Arizona State University. She has also received a Master of Arts degree in Counseling from Marymount University.


Since 2004, Maureen has worked in a variety of settings including Bishop O’Connell High School (Arlington, VA), Holly Hill Psychiatric Hospital, and private practice (both in Raleigh, North Carolina).

Maureen is also passionate about growing in her faith alongside others and is the Founder/former Director of the Full of Grace Women’s Ministry at her church. She has led women’s retreats, talks, and led groups on a variety of spiritual topics. More recently, Maureen led a group at church through Dr. Gregory Bottaro’s Catholic Mindfulness course.
